Cigar Box Guitars
Handmade with a rich history, typically crafted from repurposed cigar boxes, offer a raw and bluesy sound that celebrate the spirit of music craftsmanship
What is a cigar box guitar?
Dating back to the 19th century, these unique instruments originated from resourcefulness and creativity, as musicians sought affordable alternatives to traditional guitars. Originating in the southern United States, particularly during the Great Depression, the cigar box guitar became a symbol of grassroots musical innovation. Early blues musicians, in particular, embraced these homemade instruments, contributing to their popularity. Over the years, the tradition has endured, with contemporary musicians and enthusiasts continuing to build and play these distinctive guitars, preserving a piece of musical history born out of necessity and ingenuity.
Our Line of Cigar Box Guitars
Get back to your roots! Cigar Box guitars are typically tuned to an open chord and relatively easy to play! Unlike using re-purposed cigar boxes, we make our Cigar Box guitars one at a time, using re-claimed materials like old lumber, rusted bolts and hinges. Each one is unique and has its own place in your guitar arsenal!
